Exreme Steps' Report on Leg 2 of Polar Race 2003
Mike Krimholtz and Steve East of the Extreme Steps Team picked up the
pace for Leg 2 walking rather than skiing. They travelled over rough ice
and through some of the worst weather the Arctic could throw at them.
On Saturday they endured a white-out with wind gusting at 60mph, wind
chill reached -47°C and visibility dropped to 20 yards. It is
testament to their newly acquired skills, ability and confidence that
they continued and covered around 15 nautical miles when only a week
earlier in similar conditions they stayed in their tent and didn't move.
They pushed on with an overnight march and completed the 120 miles in
less than 6 days.
